You’ll most likely promote your new website to any marketing lists you might already have, and you’ll definitely want to point people there from your social media channels. But what about NEW people who you aren’t talking to yet? That’s where SEO comes in.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and has everything to do with how visible a website or web page is in a search engine’s organic results. As a general rule, the higher up you are in those search results, the more visitors your site will receive. From a strategic standpoint, SEO involves an understanding of how search engines work, how people search for what they’re looking for, and what terms they use.

Make sure your website content is ‘focused’. This means making sure that your content remains focused on your primary point as a brand. Cross-promote yourself with smart linking strategy. First and foremost, you’ll want to make sure that you link to your site’s most important pages right from your home/landing page. And on those secondary pages, do the reverse. Create opportunities to drive traffic elsewhere on your site by strategically placing internal links in places where you’re already engaging your audience with relevant content.
Don’t be afraid to link out to other relevant websites. You can do this by setting up a link list or resource page on your website. Choose to do it only when the content you’re pointing to is complementary to what your message is and will be of added value to your audience – – but not too much that you steal traffic from yourself. The point here is that when you link out to relevant sites in a thoughtful and strategic way, and people click on those links….search engines are more likely to see you as a trusted authority in your space.
But better yet, have other websites link out to you. This has everything to do with inbound links, which are essential to your SEO success. A great way to start would be to offer to write a guest blog post for a relevant website and link back to your own. The more you do it, the more your credibility will increase, which will help down the line as you pursue more and more external sites to link out from.
When it comes to SEO, the most important thing to understand is that there’s always work to be done in order to make sure your website is ranked as high as it can be.
